The Route: Among the Woods of the "Paths of Faith" and Monte Lonzina

The adventure begins conveniently from Montegrotto Terme (the train station and Casa Luna are very close by to easily organize any travel) to reach the imposing complex of Praglia Abbey in just a few minutes by car.

Taking trail CAI 26, the itinerary enters a relaxing woodland setting characterized by oaks and chestnut trees. The ascent is gentle and leads towards the slopes of Monte Lonzina and Monte delle Are, occasionally opening up to panoramic views of the plains and surrounding hills.

A Touch of Culture: Visiting the Benedictine Abbey and Its Treasures

Upon returning from the excursion, the experience is completed by discovering Praglia Abbey, a monumental Benedictine complex founded in the Middle Ages and recognized as a National Monument. In addition to the splendid Church of the Beata Vergine Maria Assunta (with its prized chapels and altarpieces) and the marvelous monumental cloisters (including the botanical and hanging cloisters), the Abbey preserves authentic treasures:

  • The Book Restoration Laboratory: Founded in 1951, it is one of Italy's most important centers of excellence for the preservation and recovery of ancient manuscripts, parchment, and paper artworks (their historic intervention after the 1966 Florence flood is well known).

  • The Belvedere Loggia (or Fogazzaro Loggia): An extraordinary panoramic viewpoint that even inspired writer Antonio Fogazzaro for pages of his famous novel Piccolo Mondo Moderno.

  • The Shop and Monastic Products: Inside, visitors can find the monastic pharmacy and herbal shop featuring natural creams, herbal teas, and phytotherapeutic remedies, alongside typical wines and honey cultivated and processed directly by the monastic community.

The Perfect Combination with Casa Luna

After about an hour and a half of rejuvenating outdoor walking, the ideal day for Casa Luna guests concludes by returning to the comfort of our property in Montegrotto Terme.
